Musician in court after expelling 80 pellets of cocaine

Accra May 8, GNA - An Accra Circuit Court on Thursday remanded into Police custody Isaac Abeiku Aidoo aka Goodies, a popular music producer who is being held for drug related offences.

The court, presided over Mr. Justice Frank Manu a High Court Judge sitting with an additional responsibility, as a Circuit Court judge did not take the plea of Aidoo, the Chief Executive Officer of Goodies Music Production.

Aidoo, who has been remanded for the second time, is facing charges of attempted exportation of 80 pellets of drugs suspected to be cocaine and possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority.

When the case was called, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr George Abavelim told the court that the Police had not completed investigations and therefore sought for an adjournment.

This, the court obliged and asked the dark and tall music producer dressed in brown and black check shirt with Khaki trousers and blue black canvass shoes to reappear on May 29.

The case, as presented earlier by prosecution was that on April 23, this year Aidoo arrived at the Kotoka International Airport at about 10:45 pm to board a Ghana International Airlines flight to London. Prosecution said while going through departure formalities, operatives of the Narcotic Control Board suspected Aidoo of carrying drugs in his stomach.

Aidoo was therefore escorted to the 37 Military Hospital for X-ray, which revealed that he had some foreign materials in his stomach. Aidoo was arrested and put under surveillance and he expelled 80 pellets of whitish substances suspected to be cocaine. During Police interrogation, Aidoo said one Abdul Haid, a musician residing at East Legon, Accra, gave the drugs to him to be delivered to one Willie for a fee of 3,000 dollars.

Prosecutions said he however failed to lead the Police to arrest the said Abdul.

Meanwhile the exhibit has since been sent to the Ghana Standard Board for examination. 8 May 08
