"Mugabe" Falls

First Deputy Speaker and Member of Parliament for Ellembelle, Hon. Freddie Blay will no longer be playing any active role in proceedings in the august house after losing his seat in parliamentary elections.

Blay, christened ‘Ellembelle Mugabe’ after the ‘never-say-die’ president of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe by Nana Kofi Coomson, publisher of the Chronicle group of newspapers, lost his long-held seat he won under the umbrella of the Convention People’s Party to National Democratic Congress’ Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah.

Final results are yet to be declared but with a couple of polling stations results to be added to the constituency tally, Buah is reported to have built an unassailable lead of about a thousand votes and may not be affected adversely by the sum of the remaining ballots.

Freddie Blay had largely been expected to win his seat without much sweat, however a plethora of confrontations with party executives and supporters distanced him from his party after he was accused of declaring support for NPP presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo.

Party members in his constituency openly castigated him and threatened to campaign against him, and it appears he may have paid the ultimate price.
