Mothers sleep on floors at Korle-Bu -Administrator

An administrator at the maternity ward of the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital, Dr Alhassan has confirmed speculations that some mothers who deliver there are compelled to sleep on the floors of the hospitals.

He explained that, this is due to the fact that, a ward meant for 10 people, is now accommodating 20 people because of inadequate health facilities at the department.

Dr Alhassan said, to reduce the pressure at the maternity ward, where between 40 and 50 babies are born daily; there is the need to use other health posts, Polyclinics, and the Ridge hospital which also qualified doctors who could render the same services Korle-bu provides.

He said, the rise in maternal mortality rate is due to lateness on the part of pregnant mothers who do not call early enough at the hospital.
