Missing docket on Tier 2 pension found

The docket in the case involving the 12 labour unions and government reportedly missing from the court has been found, TV3 has gathered.

The docket was found this week, the lead negotiator of the labour unions said on TV3’s News 360 on Wednesday.

The unions were dragged to court by government for embarking on strike while negotiations were ongoing over the appointment of a custodian for the second-tier pensions under the National Pensions Act.

The disagreement as to who appoints a trustee sparked labour agitation which forced the 12 unions to hit the streets.

But the court presided over by Justice Saeed Kwaku Gyan asked the labour unions to - in collaboration with the National Pensions Regulatory Authority (NPRA) - appoint a board of trustees.

According to labour’s lead negotiator, Isaac Bampoe-Addo, the workers missed a December 18 date to inaugurate its board after it was told in court that the docket of the case was missing.

But he revealed that it has been found.

“So we are hoping that it will be filed and our agreement will be accepted by the court and we will move ahead.”

The funds from the second-tier pensions have been lodged with the Bank of Ghana but labour had raised mistrust over their safe keeping.

“It is very worrying because a temporary fund is now permanent,” Mr Bampoe-Addo fumed.
