Minority wants clarification on Ghanaians refugees in Togo

Accra, May 26, GNA - Mr William Ofori Boafo, Member of Parliament for Akropong on Wednesday called on Parliament to summon the Minister for the Interior to the House to clarify issues on the status of Ghanaian refugees in Togo.

He made the call on the floor of Parliament at the opening session of the second meeting for the year.

Mr Boafo said the media had conflicting figures on the number of Ghanaian refugees in Togo and wondered whether they were political or economic refugees.

He said he was aware about 3,500 Ghanaian refugees living in Togo but not sure of the current figure.

"The Interior Minister must appear before the House to clarify issues" he added.

The Majority Leader Cletus Avoka in his response said the matter was being discussed by the leadership of the House and that a decision had been taken to summon the Interior Minister to clarify the issue. He said the Minister would address the House before the end of the week.
