Minister presents himself to court

The Deputy Minister of Interior, Mr Kwaku Agyeman-Manu, was in court on Wednesday to explain why he has failed to appear before an Accra Fast Track High Court hearing a case brought against him by three auctioneers.

The auctioneers dragged the deputy minister who also chairs the Auctioneers Registration Board to court for allegedly refusing to comply with an earlier ruling ordering him to grant them licenses to operate.

The March 28 edition of the Ghanaian Chronicle reported that the court issued a bench warrant for the arrest of Mr. Agyeman-Manu after he failed to appear three times.

The report indicated that both the deputy minister and the Attorney General who was representing him were not in court to answer the charges. The court therefore issued the warrant for the arrest of the deputy Minister.

Mr. Agyeman-Manu told an Accra based radio station -JOYFM - he was embarrassed by the court decision because he had received assurances from the Attorney General that an agreement had been reached with the complainants.
