The national tripartite committee has increased the daily minimum wage from GHC8 to GHC8.80. The 10 percent increment takes effect from January 2017.

The decision was taken today, September 7, 2016 at a tripartite committee meeting which included Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Haruna Iddrisu, National Employers Association and Organised Labour.

According to TV3’s Daniel Opoku, the tripartite committee agreed on the 10 percent increment due to the economic hardship and complaint by employers that they would not be able to pay workers a higher percentage.
