Mensah-Bonsu, Eugene Boakye-Antwi eulogise Otumfuo ahead of 67th birthday

The Minister of Parliamentary Affairs who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suame constituency Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu and MP for Subin constituency Eugene Boakye-Antwi have showered praises on the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II ahead of his 67th birthday.

The royal birthday celebration which will take place on Saturday May 6, 2017 coincides with his 18th year reign on the throne.

Speaking on Ultimate Breakfast Show with Lantam Papanko, the Majority Leader remarked that the king re-invigorated education in the region which lots of students have benefited from his scholarship.

‘…Let me wish the revered Otumfuo, the Asantehene a success, happy anniversary to him, I pray to God that he expands his frontiers in his rule as the king of Ashanti….In his vision for the future of Ashanti he introduced the Otumfuo educational scholarship scheme. And that really re-invigorated education in Ashanti region. He did not limit it to the region alone, but expanded it to other regions. That was a well thought-out scheme, so many people from outside the region benefited. All in all there is a lot to celebrate about the achievements of Otumfuo’s reign,….I wish him God’s mercy, kindness and grace and pray he expands his horizon,’ he remarked.

He suggested to the king that lots of developments need to be done in Kumasi and the region as a whole saying Kumasi is in retrogression.

On his part, Mr Boakye-Antwi eulogised ‘…Otumfuo’s birthday is a special day on the calender of Asanteman, firstly we have to look at his achievements as a king, for example the educational fund he set up. I think we have to focus more on how to assist students in our communities. His 18th year rule has been remarkable… Its been a successful tenure, we must commend him, its a very difficult job being the king of Asante, but so far so good. We wish Otumfuo well, long live Otumfuo, long live Asanteman and long live Ghana’.

The two Ashanti regional MPs prayed to God to shower his blessings on the great king for his immense contribution towards the development of Asanteman and all the successes he has chalked.

The revered king is scheduled in the morning to launch an AstroTurf and gardening park named ‘King Solomon park’ inside the Manhyia Palace to be used for durbars.

He will also hold dinner in the evening where friends of Otumfuo and the golden stool such as business magnates Owner of Despite Group of Companies Osei Kwame Despite, owner of Angel Group of Companies Kwaku Oteng will pay homage to the Asantehene.

The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his Vice Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia politicians and chiefs are also expected to grace the occasion.

‘Akwasidae’ will take place on Sunday where the Omanhene and other chiefs of Asante descent will pay homage to the king.
