Man, 60, steals plantain

Kade, July 20, GNA – Kwesi Ateyfa, 60, on Wednesday appeared before the Kade District Magistrate’s Court charged with stealing a bunch of plantain at the cost of GH¢20.

Ateyfa, who claimed to be an employee of Zoomlion, pleaded guilty and told the court that he consumed half of the bunch and sold the other half for GH¢4.

The Magistrate, Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, taking into consideration his age and physical condition and also the fact that he was a first time offender ordered him to sign a bond to be of good behaviour for twelve months or serve nine months in prison.

He was also ordered to pay the complainant GH¢40 to be deducted from his monthly pay of GH¢20 each for July and August.

Police Inspector Francis Cobbina, prosecuting, told the court that for sometime the complainant said he experienced the theft of his farm produce at Nkwantanang.

He said on July 05, the complainant visited the farm and found that a bunch of plantain had been illegally harvested.

The prosecutor said the complainant started making his own investigations as to who stole the plantain and was informed that the convict gave the plantain to one Afia Darkoa to sell for him.

When Darkoa was confronted he confirmed the story and therefore the complainant went to confront Ateyfa who flatly denied knowledge of the plantain.

The complainant later made a report to the police and when Ateyfa was arrested, he admitted stealing the plantain and was accordingly charged with the offence.
