Mahama to attend 22nd AU Summit

John Dramani Mahama is expected to attend African Union's 22nd Ordinary Session scheduled to take place at the Plenary Hall of the AU Conference Center from January 30 – 31, 2014.

President Mahama, together with other Heads of State and Government, will launch ‘2014’ as the Year of Agriculture and Food Security, as part of the 10th anniversary of the adoption of the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP).

The members of the African body's Assembly will also discuss how the African economies can channel energies to ensure a food-secured continent and relate it to climate change.

Ghana’s Food and Agriculture Minister, Clement Kofi Humado, is expected to be present for the Session.

On security, the Heads of State and Governments will consider a report of the Peace and Security Council (PSC) as regards its activities and the state of peace and security in Africa.

Report on the assessment of the African Standby Force (ASF) and the operationalisation of the African Capacity for Immediate Response to Crises (ACIRC), as well as launch of the final report of the High Level Panel on fragile States will be considered.

Key on the agenda will also be the discussion on Africa’s position on the Post-2015 Development Agenda, as well as the outcome of the Africa regional consultative meeting on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that will serve as inputs to the African Common Position on the Post-2015 Development Agenda.
