Mahama's free SHS is mere political talk - Educationist

An Educationist, Kwame Gyasi, has cast doubts on government’s intention to roll out a free Senior High School education policy from next year.

Mr. Gyasi told XYZ News that the policy hasn’t been well thought through and is just being used as a campaign talk.

President Mahama told Parliament Tuesday that the policy is being carefully designed and will start with day students before extended to boarding students.

He said funding has been sought for the policy from the Ghana Education Trust Fund.

But Mr. Gyasi told XYZ News Wednesday that he doubts the feasibility of the policy.

“It appears more to me that it is a political campaign talk rather than any serious assessment of the situation” Mr Gyasi said.

Mr. Gyasi added that “we need to move these things from politics to reality and I believe that it is all political talk…and I believe that we should take it with a pinch of salt, they are eyeing the next election and the campaign has started”.

But the Government has rubbished Mr. Gyasi’s cynicism.

A Deputy Information and Media Relations Minister, Felix Kwakye Ofosu in a reaction on Radio XYZ said government is meticulously studying how best the implementation of the project would be a success.

He added that government is focused and won’t be daunted by such skeptics.
