Members of Parliament have underscored the need for a national decision to be made on the revival of the Volta Aluminium Company VALCO.

The revival of the Company they noted will help drive the establishment of an integrated Aluminium industry that will provide jobs for the unemployed.

The MPs have suggested to government to consider dedicating power generated from the Akosombo Hydroelectric Dam to VALCO while power from Thermal plants and renewable energy is channeled to residential and other uses.

This, the Lawmakers believe will offer cheap and reliable energy to VALCO to operate at full capacity and to provide employment.

The MPs stated this when the Member for Kumawu, Philip Basoah made a statement on the Floor of the House on the under exploited bauxite industry and its impact on employment by companies like VALCO.

The Kumawu MP said it is unfortunate that the country’s development is undermined because the nation is unable to take advantage of its natural resources.

The former Minister for Petroleum and MP for Ellembele, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah spoke about channeling power from the Akosombo Dam to VALCO.

The MP for Ayawaso West Wuogon Emmanuel Kyeremanteng Agyarko touched on employment for the youth if the integrated Bauxite industry is established.

He was contributing to a statement on the need to promote Ghana’s bauxite industry and revive the Volta Aluminium Company VALCO.
