Local players are mentally not tough - Konadu

Black Stars assistant coach Maxwell Konadu has passed a damning verdict about the quality of local players, claiming it will be a HUGE risk to draft them in the A-list team since they lack the psychological strength to play at the top level.

The latest comment from the Local Black Stars trainer could spell doom for players desirous of earning call-ups into the national team.

The Local Black Stars failed to qualify to next year’s CHAN tournament in Rwanda after losing on aggregate to neighbours Cote D’Ivoire.

And the former Asante Kotoko coach has questioned the mental toughness of local players, claiming it will be a huge risk to include them into the A-list Black Stars squad.

“It’s just the mentality. They have to get something right up here. From my experience, that is what I think,” he told Starr FM

“When we are able to psyche the local player very well. It’s not about motivation or anything.

“For whatever reason, they go up there (Black Stars A-team) and do not fit in very. That (Inferiority complex) is part of it but is not all of it.

“The national team (Black Stars A-team), the risk taken must be very minimal. That is the heart beat of Ghana.

Konadu’s outburst is set to spark another debate in the West African country after several calls to have local players drafted into the team reaching dead end.
