Lift the curfew, participant urge

Participants during the people's assembly for the Bawku East District held at Bawku in the Upper East Region on Thursday called for the immediate lifting of the curfew imposed on the town so as to end the rampant stealing taking place during the curfew hours.

They state that the curfew has given thieves in the town a field day and hardly a week passes by without news that a shop or store broken into and goods burgled.

The people argued that since peace has now returned to the town there is no justification in maintaining the curfew, which is now the cause of some people's woes.

However, Mr.Mahami Salifu, the Regional Minister in a reaction, explained that the Regional Security Council (REGSEC) is studying the situation to ascertain when to lift the curfew.

"It is true that there is now peace and unity in the town but the issue at stake is how to sustained and consolidate the peace and unity in order to promote the rapid development of the area" he added.
