Let's ensure constant utility supply- PUWU

Accra, March 27, GNA- Alhaji Bawah Salifu, Deputy General Secretary of the Public Utility Workers' Union (PUWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) has said that one of the major things to attract investors is to ensure a 24-hour uninterrupted utility service.

He said no investor would be interested to respond to the invitation to invest if steps were not taken to prevent the outage of power mainly caused by outmoded machinery.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency in an interview on "Utility Services' role in investment", in Accra on Friday, Alhaji Salifu said there was the need to pay realistic or economic tariffs that would raise enough funds to replace essential equipment for the daily supply of services.

He said the current rate of payment of tariffs was inadequate to suffice the cost of new equipment and that had contributed to numerous outages. Alhaji Salifu said these outages were not deliberately caused by workers of the utility services or to sabotage government efforts of making life comfortable for the people.
