Last minute projects by politicians condemned

Professor Stephen Addei, director general of Ghana Institute of Management & Public Adminstration (GIMPA), has condemned the practice of politicians embarking on developmental projects just before elections are held.

While blaming the act on the two leading political parties, NPP and NDC, he said the on-going construction of roads and fixing of streetlights by the government at the Odododiodoo constituency would have been more appreciated if they were undertaken at the time the people needed them most.

Prof. Addei was speaking to a local radio station -JoyFM - after announcing GIMPA?s plans to deploy an observation team at the Odododiodoo bye-elections on August 30.

?I always say that probably it is a dividend for the people over there. I would wish that they will do those things not on the last minute but one of the advantages of elections is that it forces politicians to act, so in a sense it is to the advantage of the people in Odododiodio that Ghanaian politics is still rudimentary,? he said.
