Last Batch of Haj Pilgrims Arrive

The last batch of 250 Ghanaians Muslim Pilgrims returned home on Saturday after successfully participating in this year's Haj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

So far 950 pilgrims have returned from Mecca. Speaking to newsmen on arrival at the Kotoka International Airport the leader of the Haj and MP for Nanton, Alhaji Alhassan Yakubu, described the Haj as successful and a fulfilment of the Koran's injunction on all Muslims.

He said this year's Haj was faced with a number of difficulties and challenges in terms of extra cost to the pilgrims and late preparations. According to Alhaji Yakubu, these problems would be tackled during preparations for future pilgrimages.

He said special prayers were offered for the country's unity and prosperity. He said four Ghanaian pilgrims died as a result of natural causes.

They are Mohamed Iddrisu, from the Volta Region, Mohamadu Iddi from Upper West, Imoru Salifu and Adama Bio both from the Northern Region. They were above 60 years and were all buried in Saudi Arabia.
