An Accra Circuit Court on Monday sentenced Nii Adjei Sowah, a labourer who snatched a lady’s bag containing GH¢800.00 after piercing her cheek with a broken bottle, to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour.

This was after the Court presided over by Mr Justice Francis Obiri found him guilty on the charges of causing harm and robbery.

The Trial Judge therefore convicted Sowah to 15 years on each of the charges to run concurrently.

Prosecuting Chief Inspector Kofi Adu told the Court that Ms Lydia Crenstil is a trader residing at Darkuman in Accra while the convict lived at Teshie.

Prosecution said the complainant was on board a taxi from Teshie to Darkuman and on reaching Maritime University gate at about 0320 hours; the driver stopped and alighted to urinate.

Sowah took advantage of the opportunity and force opened the front door of the taxi and pulled out the complainant from the passenger seat and at gun point and led her to a tree on the Maritime University Compound.

Chief Inspector Kofi Adu said the convict pierced the complainant’s cheek with a broken bottle and bolted with the bag containing the money.

Prosecution said the complainant reported the matter to the Police and she was issued with medical report to attend hospital.

Later the Police apprehended Sowah, Prosecutor said.
