U.K. pledges continuous support to Civil Service

Mrs. Clare Short, British Secretary of State in charge of International Development, has pledged the United Kingdom's continuous support towards Ghana's Civil Service Performance Improvement Programme (CSPIP). She said her unit, which is the London-based Department for International Development (DFID), would be prepared to offer further assistance if this is required. Mrs. Short made the pledge in London where Dr Robert Dodoo, Head of the Civil Service, called on her to discuss wide range of issues. A press release from the Head of Civil Service in Accra said matters discussed include Ghana's bold initiatives at restructuring her administrative machinery to facilitate the attainment of Vision 2020, strategies on poverty alleviation, improving health facilities and standard of education. The United Kingdom government through the DFID is supporting the reform programme. Mrs. Short expressed the hope that the reform programme could be an "exported model" to other countries and declared her intention to visit Ghana soon.
