Keep Electorate Informed Always - District Cheif Executive Urges

Saltpond (Central Region) 15 Sept.,

The Mfantsiman District Assembly members have been urged to keep their electorate regularly informed of decisions taken at assembly meetings. The Mfantsiman District Chief Executive, Mr. George Kuntu- Blankson made the call when addressing members of the district assembly representing electoral areas in Saltpond. He reminded the members that section 16 of the Local Government Act 1993, enjoins them to consult their electorate to collate their views and proposals to assembly meetings and in turn report on decisions of the House to the people. He said majority of the electorate complain that their assembly members have been neglecting this important duty to the extent that their views are not heard in the assembly while they are kept ignorant or misinformed about the decisions of the House. Mr. Kuntu-Blankson said this situation defeats the objective of the district assembly concept which is aimed at fostering grassroots representation of the people. He directed that every assembly member should henceforth submit quarterly reports on his or her interaction with the electorate to him as a measure to monitor their performance in their electoral areas.
