J.H Mensah Under Fire

Some residents of New Dormaa, a suburb of Sunyani, under the Sunyani East constituency, have subjected the Senior Minister, Hon J. H. Mensah, to criticism, saying he has no concern for his constituency.

These people, who claim to be NPP loyalists said, since the 2000 election, Hon J. H. Mensah, who is also MP for the area, has never visited the community to know the problems confronting them.

This was disclosed at a mini-rally organised by the NPP ward at New Dormaa to explain some government policies to the people. Whilst others were criticising the senior minister, some of them condemned the entire NPP executive for Brong Ahafo, as ineffective and inefficient.

Mr. Osman Seidu, Chairman of the New Dormaa ward of the NPP, noted that Government and the party functionaries in the region were doing nothing, when it came to explaining government policies to the masses.

According to Mr. Seidu, politics or governance was not a matter of sitting in offices only, but also going to the field to acquaint oneself with the problems of the people and address them.

One Ekow Forson indicated that the image of the NPP was going down the drain at New Dormaa, because there was no interaction between the party's leadership and the party members in the area.

"Dormaa only hear of the party when members of the government and the national executive come to the region," he stated.

He regretted that non-NPP members were teasing them that the NPP had neglected them.

One Georgina Kyei, a teacher, was particular on the senior minister's inability to visit the area.

She said, during the electioneering campaign, the people told the senior minister that the major problem, being the need for a KVIP was facing them, which he promised to tackle, but since they voted for him, he had turned his back to the request.

Another female constituent, Felicia Dede, decried that New Dormaa had no place for them to dump their refuse, lamenting that they had to walk miles before throwing refuse away.
