Former Deputy Defence Minister Major Derek Oduro has expressed dismay over the alleged involvement of Asutifi South MP Collins Dauda in multiple election-related violent incidents.

The former MP described Collins Dauda's recent arrest in connection with an alleged violent incident during the ongoing limited registration operation as "horrible."

He remarked that it is disconcerting for a respected MP to be repeatedly associated with election-related violence.

Collins Dauda, the Member of Parliament for Asutifi South, was arrested by the Ghana Police Service on Saturday, May 11, 2024, for his alleged involvement in disruptions that occurred in Kukuom, Ahafo Region, during the Limited Voter Registration Exercise.

It was reported that one person was injured in the event and subsequently received treatment at a hospital. The MP has since been granted bail.

In response to the incident, Oduro lamented that recent elections have been marred by violent clashes, resulting in fatalities and numerous injuries.

"For someone who has served in Parliament for years, has held a ministerial position, and understands democracy and our constitution, it is appalling to be arrested in connection with an alleged election-related violent incident. The Kukuom incident is deeply troubling, and if the allegations are true, it is terrible," he said on Frontline on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM.

Allegations have surfaced that the MP's vehicle was used to instigate trouble, with claims that the car contained several firearms, including American pump-action guns, which were allegedly used to shoot at people.

"I pray these allegations are unfounded.

Those responsible for this incident must be apprehended, regardless of their status.

"Even the President of the Republic is not above the law and can face prosecution for criminal offenses; therefore, those involved in the Kukuom incident must not be spared," he added.

Oduro highlighted that violence has been a recurring issue in the Asunafo area, especially in Kukuom during elections.

He also denounced other violent incidents at registration centers and emphasized the urgency for the police to take decisive action.
