Issue of Western Togoland Restoration Front worrying - Chieftaincy minister

The Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs Minister, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has expressed concern over the activities of the Western Togoland separatist group in the Volta Region, emphasising the need for collaboration to address the issue.

Speaking at the Volta Regional House of Chiefs on Friday (19 April 2024), Asamoah Boateng acknowledged the problematic nature of the Western Togoland restoration front and the Homeland Study Group Foundation's actions. He underscored the importance of engaging with traditional authorities in the region to find a solution.

"In the Volta Region, the issue of Western Togoland restoration front and the Homeland Study Group Foundation sometimes give us a worry or mostly," Minister Asamoah Boateng stated, highlighting the government's awareness of the group's agitations and the necessity for dialogue.

While acknowledging the separatist movement's grievances, the minister emphasised the government's commitment to resolving the matter through collaboration and discussion. He called upon the chiefs in the Volta Region to support the government's efforts in achieving a peaceful resolution.

"I understand the foundation of all these agitations, and we've had intensive discussions in government, but we call for collaboration and discussions, and I leave that to the traditional authorities [in the region]," Minister Asamoah Boateng remarked.

In his appeal to the chiefs, Minister Asamoah Boateng urged them to actively participate in finding a lasting solution to the issue. He emphasised the importance of bringing finality to the agitations for secession to ensure peace and stability in the region.

"My appeal to Togbewo (the chiefs) is to find a way that we can bring finality to these agitations of breakaway," Minister Asamoah Boateng urged.
