Invigilators commend WAEC

Tema, April 15, GNA -- The management of West Africa Examination Council (WAEC) has been commended for providing examination centres with both cassette tapes and Compact Disk during the Oral English at the ongoing West Africa Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) Invigilators from five examination centres in the Tema Metropolis, who made the commendation, explained that provision of these logistics solved the problem of the re-occurrence of candidates' complaints against the inaudibility of the voice on the tape as it happened last year.

They made the commendation when Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Tema Senior High School (SHS), Tema Presbyterian SHS, Tema Methodist Day SHS, Chemu SHS and Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) SHS examination centres. Some of the invigilators said they used the CD which was so clear while others observed that they started with the tape which was not very audible and therefore had to switch to the use of the CD without encountering any problem. They congratulated the students for comporting themselves during the examination and urged them to concentrate on their studies as well as obey the WAEC rules and regulations to avoid cancellation of their papers.

All the centres recorded an incident free examination however, TEMASCO and MEDASS recorded a boy and a girl being absent. Apart from OLAM, candidates at Chemu SHS wrote the examinations in four batches, MEDASS also had three batches while TEMASCO students wrote in three batches, their colleagues at Tema PRESEC had two batches. While 526 students sat for the examination at TEMASCO with 18 invigilators and a supervisor, 210 candidates participated in the examination at Tema PRESEC with four invigilators and a supervisor. Chemu centre which hosted DEKS SHS with 674 students and Chemu SHS with 155 students had 28 invigilators, a supervisor and five assistant supervisors.

A supervisor and eight invigilators were at OLAM examination centre that had 206 students from OLAM SHS and 67 students from Corpus Christi SHS. About 324 students sat for the examination at MEDASS under the supervision of 11 invigilators, a supervisor and an assistant supervisor. Even though the first batch was supposed to start at 0900 hours and end after 45 minutes, some of the centres started few minutes after the time due to delay in arranging the students.
