Interior Minister given additional responsibility

Accra, Nov 2, GNA- President John Mills has on Tuesday given an additional responsibility to the Interior Minister, Mr Martin Amidu to be responsible for the Intelligence Agencies in the country.

A letter from the Presidency read to the House by the Speaker Justice Joyce Bamford- Addo said the directive was in accordance with the Security and Intelligence Act 1996.

The Speaker wished him well in his new addition assignment. Incidentally Mr Amidu was in the house to answer questions. Ghana's current security agencies that will be under Mr Amidu includes, National Security Council (Centre for National Security), Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) (Internal Intelligence Agency) and Research Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (External Intelligence Agency).

The rest are Criminal Investigations Department (CID), and the Military Intelligence (MI), (Ghana Armed Forces).
