Interior Minister Petitions Chief Justice Over Narcotics Cases

Interior Minister, Alhaji Malik Yakubu has written to the Chief Justice E.K.Wiredu to express concern about the manner in which the courts have been handling narcotics cases. He said the letter, which was delivered through Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Nana Akuffo Addo, has become necessary in view of the slow process involved in trying narcotics cases and the circumstance in which they are granted bail.

In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Alhaji Yakubu said some of the suspects having been granted bail, manage to abscond and the case dies slowly. The security personnel who are tasked to apprehend these drug dealers become frustrated as their efforts do not yield the necessary results.

The drug dealers on their part are encouraged to engage in this nefarious activities, thereby making the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking arduous, he added.
