Imminent crises in Senior High Schools - GNAT

Accra, March 16, GNA - The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) on Tuesday called on the Ghana Education Service (GES) to immediatel= y resolve the issue of non-admission of first-year students in some of the country's Senior High Schools (SHS) next academic year.

Some Heads of SHS have stated that due to inadequate classrooms and accommodation facilities on campuses, admitting new students will not be feasible and that the issue needed a critical assessment.

A statement issued in Accra and signed by Mrs. Irene Duncan-Adanusa, General Secretary of GNAT urged the GES to urgently call a meeting of the Heads of Institutions to study the problems and collaborate with CHASS to suggest ways of solving the problems before the unexpected happens in September which is the beginning of the 20102011 academic year. It said: 93we deem it necessary to bring this simmering situation to t= he fore and call on the education authorities to nip it in the bud".
