IMF satisfied with gov't performance

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has said it is satisfied with the government?s economic performance so far.

According to the IMF, prospects for accelerated economic growth looks better now that the government has been working hard over the past months to achieve micro-economic stability leading to the reduction in the rate of inflation and the interest rate among others.

The IMF Executive Director for Ghana and Africa, Abass Miracor, made the observation in an interaction with journalists after he and President John Kufuor held a review meeting on the economy at the Castle, Osu in Accra on Thursday.

The periodic review meeting enables the IMF on one hand and the President and the Economic Management Team on the other to discuss the performance of the economy and suggest the way forward.

Miracor said with a sound micro economic gain framework in place, the IMF was now going to turn its attention to assist the government to give priority attention to develop the health, education sectors, infrastructure and poverty alleviation among others, in consonance with the government achieving its important vision to better the lives of the people.

He said the IMF delegation was in the country to consult with the President and his team on how best the fund could assist to accelerate the attainment of this vision. Miracor congratulated the government would continue to work harder in the months ahead to achieve more success for the nation and build a sound economy for progress.

He said his discussions with the President proved very fruitful and touched more on the government?s plans to further move the economy forward between now and next year. Among those present at the meeting were the Senior Minister and chairman of the Economic Management Team, J.H. Mensah, and Kwabena Agyepong, a Presidential spokesman.
