IGP Off To INTERPOL Meeting

Inspector General of Police Nana Owusu-Nsiah and five others leave Accra today for Yaounde - Cameroon to attend to the 71st General Assembly Session of the International Police - Interpol. Deputy IGP in charge of Operations, Patrick Acheampong will act in the absence of Nana Owusu-Nsiah. The Yaounde meeting is the second Interpol gathering in Africa. The first was in Accra in 1976.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency, the IGP said Ghana’s delegation would seek co-operation from other member countries in combating international terrorism and crime. Nana Owusu Nsiah says international crimes, such as advanced fee fraud (419), money laundering and drug trafficking can only be fought through international police co-operation to tail and track down criminals.

The Yaounde meeting would grant an opportunity for member states to formulate policies and strategies to combat international crime. Interpol is made of 180 countries worldwide and meets once every year to communicate over the global trends of crime.
