Hooting and insults do not win elections - Minister

Kumasi, May 23, GNA - Mr Samuel Nuamah-Donkor, Ashanti Regional Minister, on Tuesday said hooting and insults do not win elections.

He said only God knows the persons, who are going to win the December presidential and parliamentary elections, because God knows what is in the heart of every human being.

Mr Nuamah-Donkor was inaugurating the Ashanti Regional Branch of Professor Atta Mills Brotherhood Fan Club in Kumasi. He said the way certain supporters of political parties behave in the region leaves much to be desired, and called on all party supporters to comport themselves during and after the December 8 elections.

He urged the executives and members of the club to desist from activities that do not augur well for peaceful elections They should be tolerant and campaign effectively to win more votes for Professor Mills.

Mr Nuamah-Donkor said the NDC does not dish out money to its members and if it is because of money that they have joined the party then they must return to where they were. "We join NDC to get power to create employment, good roads and national development to improve the living conditions of the people".

The Regional Minister asked them to work hard to enable Professor Mills to win to continue to bring more development programmes and projects into the country. Nana Akwasi Agyeman, Kumasi Metropolitan Chief Executive, debunked the rumours that there is confusion between him and the Regional Minister, saying those circulating the news would not get anywhere.

Nana Agyeman called on the members to refrain from backbiting, rumour mongering and lies and close their ranks and work hard for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to win the elections. He said asked for support in the fight to rid the metropolis of filthy surroundings and criminals.

Hajia Sala Kunte, Ashanti Regional Women's Organiser of NDC, told the executives that they have a lot to do to educate especially the youth on the good things the NDC government has done for Ghanaians, which some people have within a short period forgotten.

Nana Sarfo Kantanka, Vice-Chairman of the EGLE Party in Ashanti, urged the media houses especially the FM radio stations to work on programmes and stories that would unite the people politically and socially rather than dividing them or provoking violence in the society.

The Club has Madam Amma Dufie as chairperson, Mr William Godbless Boakye, secretary and Mr George Opoku Mensah, treasurer.
