Head teacher jailed for defiling pupil

Accra, Aug. 12, GNA - A Circuit Court in Accra on Tuesday sentenced a 62 year-old head teacher to seven years' imprisonment in hard labour for defiling a six year-old Class Two pupil in his office. Nathaniel Okai who was charged with defilement was found guilty at the end of the trial, presided over Mrs Georgina Mensah-Datsa. The case as presented by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Mr George Abavelim was that the victim's father, a lotto receiver, resides in the same area with the Okai.

On November 23, 2005, Okai called the victim to his office and had sex with her. Soon after the act Okai gave the victim GH¢0.15 and GH¢0.035 to buy food and water respectively and warned her not disclose her ordeal to anyone.

The victim, however, informed her father who lodged a complaint with the Police at Kotobabi. The prosecution said the case was later transferred to the Domestic Violence and Victims Support Unit (DOVVSU) where in his caution statement he admitted the offence.
