Have girls to benefit from ten-year scholarship

Have (V/R), April 10, GNA - Professor (Mrs) Victoria Dzogbefia, lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has instituted a 10-year, 20 million cedis scholarship scheme to promote girl education in her hometown, Have, in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region.

The scholarship scheme, known as "Emmanuel Kwaku Agbloyor Memorial Scholarship for Girls' Education", will support outstanding girls from junior secondary schools in the town to pursue senior secondary and university education.

Prof Dzogbefia said the scholarship is in honour of her late father who, in spite of financial constraints did not deny her the right to education. Prof Dzogbefia who launched the scholarship scheme on Sunday during the centenary celebration of the establishment of Christianity in Have by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of Ghana, said the scholarship is limited to girls who are attending their primary and junior secondary schools at Have.

They will be expected to attain aggregate 12 or better at the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) level and maintain high moral standards and academic excellence during the period of the scholarship, she explained.

Beneficiaries will be sponsored to spend their holidays at the KNUST to derive inspiration from female students in the university.
