Vice President Aliu Mahama expressed concern about Hajj operations in the country and directed that a new committee to be established should ensure that all problems associated with the Hajj are solved for smooth pilgrimage to Mecca.

"Hajj operations have had a lot of problems and the government hopes to come out with a new committee that would not wait until the last month of the pilgrimage to create confusion."

Alhaji Mahama was receiving a report and handing over notes for the period 1996-2001 from the out-going Hajj Committee at the State House in Accra.

He said the new committee should study all the problems and recommendations in the report and liaise with the previous committee for any clarifications to enhance their activities.

Sheikh Ibrahim Quaye, Greater Accra Regional Minister commended the committee for the report and said its findings would be studied and used to make more progress in the management of the Hajj.

Alhaji Issaku Saliah, Chairman of the Committee who presented the report described this year's Hajj as a transitional one due the experiences, successes and failures encountered which formed the basis of recommendations to the new committee to improve upon.

Alhaji Saliah who is also the Member of Parliament for Wa East expressed gratitude to government for the opportunity to serve the people.
