Govt. threatens to withdraw privileges of Rawlings

Ghana's Foreign Minister Hackman Owusu-Agyeman says Government will withdraw all privileges accorded Former President Jerry Rawlings, if he refuses to conduct himself in the appropriate manner.

Responding to the Ex- President's out-burst, during a lecture at the Arts Center in Accra to commemorate the 22nd Anniversary of the June Four uprising, Mr. Owusu-Agyeman said if the former president wants to be accorded the courtesies he deserves, then he must conduct himself with decorum as a former president of the country.

The foreign minister warned, " We will take away all those privileges given to him. We will take it away for Christ sake. We know what we are talking about," adding that if the former president decides not to "play by the rules of the game then obviously he does not deserve to have those privileges".

To be treated like a former President, he needs to behave like one." Mr Owusu-Agyemang threatened to take legal action against Flight Lieutenant Rawlings if he is found to have made defamatory statements against him.

Flight Lt. Rawlings accused the foreign Minister of lying about his recent trip to the United States of America where it was alleged that no official of Ghana's Mission in Washington was at the Airport to welcome the former President.

"If I hear the tape properly and get to know that he has defamed my name, I will sue the man," Mr. Owusu-Agyeman swore.
