Govt determined to modernize the railway system

Accra, Sept.17, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Wednesday, said the modernization of the Railway Sector was a priority on the government's development programme.

He said government would, therefore, offer the needed assistance to a team of experts expected in Ghana from China to undertake feasibility studies on the sector as a follow-up to appeals he made during his official visit to China last year.

President Kufuor said this when Mr Zhang Keyuan, Chinese Ambassador in Ghana presented his Letters of Credence at the Castle, Osu.

He said government was also waiting eagerly for support from China to rehabilitate portions of the Accra-Kumasi trunk road and commended Alcatel Shangai Bell, a Chinese company, for its assistance of 150 million dollars to improve the provision of telecommunications in Ghana.

Mr Keyuan pledged to improve on the good works of his predecessor to raise relationship between both countries onto a higher pedestal. He gave the assurance that projects initiated by his predecessor would be continued and completed during his tenure of office.
