The search has begun for a new government statistician as Dr. Philomena Nyarko retires next month.

Her work as government statistician is expected to end on May 11.

Currently advertisements are out for applications from interested candidates.

It is not clear if any of her deputies are being considered to take over the job.

Dr. Philomena Nyarko took over from Dr. Grace Bediako in 2012.

She bows out at a time the inflation rate for the oil producing West African country has been pegged at 19.2 percent, the highest since August 2009.

Speaking to Starr business, Dr. Nyarko said a competent person would be appointed to take over from her.
