Gov't must keep faith with the people - Archbishop

The Primate and Metropolitan Archbishop of the Anglican Church of the Internal Province of West Africa, the Most Reverend Professor Daniel Yinkah-Sarfo has urged the government to endeavour to live up to the expectations of the citizenry.

He said there was the need for it to listen to the concerns of the people and put their welfare at the centre of its policy interventions to ease the economic pain and make things better for everybody.

He was addressing the on-going 17th Synod of the Kumasi Diocese at the church’s retreat and spiritual renewal centre at Nkawie in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District.

“This is very important since we have signed a social contract with them by giving them our mandate,” he said.

“Working Together to Grow the Harvest,” is the theme for the four-day event being attended by 150 delegates.

Archbishop Yinkah-Sarfo said it was important for Ghanaians to unite and accept to contribute their quota to the progress of the country.

They should seek the peace and continue to pray for the prosperity of the society, he said.

He called for the declaration of a three-day national repentance prayer and fasting by the President - as the King and the people of Nineveh did, for God’s intervention to keep the economy on an even keel.

Archbishop Yinkah-Sarfo called for the strengthening of state institutions and structures that would help Ghana’s democracy to work properly.

“Our national constitution must be reviewed at all cost after having worked with it for 22 years,” he said.
