Ghana, UN To Combat Road Accidents

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC) of Ghana has made a formal presentation on road safety at the United Nations (UN) in New York.

Ghana was the only African country invited to this seminar under the theme “A Decade of Action for Road safety” due to the progress made in Ghana in road safety management. Speaking to The citizen Newspaper, the entourage who made the visit to UN General on behalf of NRSC, was excited that NRSC’ s efforts to combat road accidents had been recognized around globe.

Ing. Noble John Appiah, the Executive Director of NRSC, was requested to make a presentation on Road Safety Policy, strategy and a decade of action. The presentation was in two parts, one at the World Bank in Washington DC on 16th April and the other at UN in New York on the 18th April, 2012. He was a companied by Ing. May Obiri- Yeboah the Director for Planning Programmes at the NRSC.

At the World Bank and the UN, the entourage from Ghana had the opportunity to meet the Chief Executives of major road safety related agencies, Hon. Members of the UN General Assembly and development partners.

There is no doubt that the NRSC efforts to combat road accidents and related issues have earned Ghana the leader status in road safety management in middle and low income countries and that has offered the NRSC the opportunity to present a paper at the UN General Assembly.

According to Mr. Noble J. Appiah, the NRSC will do its best to attain the national vision and strategic objectives for road accident by being focused, proactive and innovative in its programmes and activities.
