Ghana Telecom Owes AMA 232mC In Property Areas ?

Accra, Aug. 27, - The Accra Metropolitan Assembly today served a final notice to Ghana Telecom at its head office in Accra for defaulting in payment of property rates. According to Mr Elliot Adom, Public Relations Officer of the AMA, Ghana Telecom has defaulted in the payment of property rate of 232 million cedis for 1996 and 1997. He said Section 104 and 106 of the Local Government Act 462 (1993) state that ''where a rate payer defaults in payment 10 days after the due date, the Assembly is to paste a poster at a very conspicuous place as a final demand notice.'' ''This is to allow for 42 days within which the rate payer is supposed to settle the amount.'' He said if the amount is not paid after 42 days, the Assembly can apply to the court for the sale of the property to retrieve the amount. In the case of Ghana Telecom, it is to pay the amount on or before October six. Yesterday, the Assembly served a similar notice which was removed by an unknown person.
