Ghana Post to introduce 50th independence anniversary stamps

Accra, Aug. 31, GNA - Ghana Post Company Limited would soon introduce commemorative stamps and organise a quiz competition on the nation's 50th independence anniversary celebration scheduled for March 2007.

Mr Kofi Dua Adonten, Managing Director of the Company, said this at a ceremony held by the Company for winners of the special quiz competition organized for the senior national team, the Black Stars, ahead of their participation in the 2006 World Cup held in Germany. The competition, which was to raise funds for the Black Stars, saw Mr Ken Taylor winning the ultimate prize of a 29-inch colour television set and DVD player.

He said the quiz competition was to test the knowledge of Ghanaians on the Golden Jubilee celebration.

Mr Dua Adonten said the stamps, which would come with historic pictures and features, were also aimed at arousing interest as well as to create awareness among Ghanaians on the event.

"These, I believe, will help to mobilize the conscience and commitment of Ghanaians towards the historic anniversary." Mr Dua Adonten said the Company was liaising with its partners for the two projects and promised that the competition would come with attractive prizes.
