Ghana Achieves 100% Polio Immunisation

Ghana achieved more than 100 per cent of her target during the first and second rounds of this year?s national polio immunisation exercise carried out last February and March.

The results put the country in a very strong position to achieve the World Health Organisation (WHO?s) target of eradicating polio by the end of next year.

Dr. Kwadwo Odei Antwi-Agyei, Programme Manager of the National Immunisation Programme, made this known in an interview in Accra.

The national target of the polio immunisation programme, which is 5,141,538, was exceeded in the first round exercise with a recorded coverage figure of 5,196,362 children less than five years, representing 101 per cent. A total of 5,433,676 children were covered in the second round exercise, representing 106 per cent.
