GPRTU warns police against harassing drivers

The National Secretariat of the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of the TUC (GPRTU) on Friday cautioned the police against rushing to lorry stations to harass and beat up drivers on the pretext of maintaining law and order.

A statement issued in Accra on Friday by Mr Elias K. Gbedemah, National Chairman, said such unprovoked actions by the police would rather put fear in the drivers and prevent them from operating effectively.

He advised passengers who feel cheated to report all recalcitrant drivers to the regional secretariats of the GPRTU or Ghana Road Transport Co-ordinating Council instead of rushing to the police.
