GJA announces award winners

Accra, May 2, GNA - The 11-member Award Committee set up by the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) on Tuesday announced names of individuals and media houses that have recommended for the 2005 Journalists' Awards.

They are Linda Asante-Adjei, Ghana News Agency; Joyce Anim-Ayeko, GBC Radio; Emmanuel Arthur, TV3; Kwateboi Owoo, "The Ghanaian Times", Peggy Ama Donkor, Ghana Television; Stephen Kofi Akordor, "Daily Graphic"; Anas Aremeyaw Anas, Weekend Crusading Guide and Merari Alomele of the "The Spectator".

The rest are Godfred Blay Gibbah, "Ghanaian Times"; Maurice Quansah, "Graphic Sports"; Nii Adokwei Moffat, "Graphic Showbiz"; Francis Asamoah Tuffour, "The Ghanaian Times"; Roland Walker, TV3 and Janet Quainoo, Daily Graphic.

The Media houses were Public Agenda, Daily Graphic, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and Joy FM.

Nana Addo Twum, Chairman of the Committee, said they went through a hard time before coming out with the final list of winners and commended the members for their commitment and dedication.

In all, 111 entries were received in different categories, out of which 14 journalists, who distinguished themselves in the profession, were selected.

Mr Boakye-Dankwa Boadi, Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency and member of the committee, said they were not impressed about the diction used by those, who filed their entries, and urged journalists to read more in order to improve on their delivery.

The award ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 5, 2006.
