GHANA MOURNS WITH JAPAN

The President and people of Ghana have expressed their condolences to His Majesty, Emperor Akihito, on the death of his mother, Empress Nagako.

A press release issued in Accra by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said "the people of Ghana and I have learnt with profound sorrow the death of your dear mother, Empress Nagako."

The release said the "late Empress would be remembered as the charming and loving consort of your late father, Emperor Hirohito." According to the release, the deceased was a caring and compassionate mother to the Japanese people and will be missed by them.

It said "on behalf of the people and Government of Ghana and on my own behalf, I wish to convey to your Majesty, members of the Royal Family and the people of Japan our deepest condolences.

The release expressed the hope that the Empress will have a peaceful rest.
