GFA to establish goals campaign for girls

Kwesi Nyantakyi - GFA President Kwesi Nyantakyi - GFA President

Kwesi Nyantakyi, president of Ghana Football Association (GFA), has said the federation would soon establish the “Live your goals campaign” for girls in schools and communities as part of ongoing efforts to expand the interests in women’s football in the country.

“As part of our ongoing efforts to expand the interest and participation rate in women’s football as well as to develop the footballing skills of girls from young a young age, we will establish the 'Live Your Goals Campaign' for girls in schools and communities”, he said.

Nyantakyi announced this in Tamale on Tuesday, at the extra-ordinary congress of the GFA, where he was re-elected unopposed as president for another four years.

He went unopposed after the other contestants, Ofeibia Ramatu and George Ankomah, failed to submit their nominations before the stipulated deadline.

He said the GFA would tap the expertise of the giant women football countries on the implementation of a long term plan, which aimed at enhancing the development of women’s football in Ghana, as well as working hard to improve standards, hinting his outfit would also start the process of getting the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence operational to ensure that the National U-17 players were honed at the academy in Prampram from an early age.

The president who assumed power in 2005 said there was the need to explore insurance and pension schemes for players in the local league to ensure that players stayed longer in the local leagues while the full implementation of the Club Licensing System for clubs in the top two tiers of Ghana football help raise standards in all aspect of the game.
