GBC rejects ex-manager

William Ampem Darko, Director General of Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), is likely to be dragged to court in the coming days over a disclaimer of a former employee of the GBC he issued to the press.

Kwadwo Kusi Boachie, former Human Resource Manager of GBC who has threatened to take the director to court, said Mr. Ampem Darko erred by issuing the disclaimer against him in the media.

According to him, he officially resigned as an employee of GBC a few days before Mr. Ampem Darko issued the disclaimer against him, noting the publication has dented his image. Mr. Boachie has therefore given Mr. Ampem Darko a 24-hour ultimatum to retract the disclaimer or else “I will advise myself.”

He said since he resigned from GBC on November 9, 2010, he had never posed as an employee of the company, wondering why Mr. Ampem Darko would issue the disclaimer to discredit him. On why he left GBC barely one year of being at post, Mr. Boachie said, “Nobody forced me out but Mr. Ampem Darko’s misdeeds which I could not tolerate influenced my decision to resign.”

He claimed Mr. Ampem Darko had made himself a tin god at GBC and was currently presiding over evil acts which noble people like him could not stand. He alleged, “He tried to put pressure on me to twist the rules and allow people who did not qualify to be employed, which I resisted.”

Again, he said, Mr. Ampem Darko enticed the GBC union members by giving them huge monthly bonuses to defend whatever he would initiate in the company. Sadly, he lamented, these unfortunate developments were happening at a time when some workers of the company were not paid their monthly bonuses.

The former GBC employer who looked angry took Mr. Ampem Darko to the cleaners by describing him as an “incompetent, opportunist and corrupt” person who was presiding over “foolishness.” Mr. Boachie, who claimed to hate evil, said he willingly chose to resign from the company after he had sent a petition of Mr. Ampem Darko’s wrongdoings to the board of the GBC.

According to him, copies of the petition, dated October 11, 2010, were forwarded to the National Media Commission, GBC Regional Directors and Minister of Information.

Mr. Boachie said he was convinced Mr. Ampem Darko intentionally issued the disclaimer against him on GBC television and GBC radio with the aim of tarnishing his hard-won reputation. But he swore that he would take the necessary actions to redeem his image if Mr. Ampem Darko failed to retract the disclaimer against him within the next 24 hours.
