GAF deploys engineers to flood-prone areas in the north

Accra, Aug. 27, GNA - The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) says it has deployed a detachment of engineers to flood-prone areas in northern Ghana as a result of the heavy rains in the area and spillage of the Bagre Dam in Burkina Faso.

A statement from the GAF Public Relations Directorate in Accra on Wednesday said the engineers would be on standby to undertake search and rescue operations as well as reconstruction of bridges in the catchment areas.

The soldiers would work together with the National Disaster Management Organisation and other stakeholders and would remain in the area until the situation is normalised.

The statement said during the recent floods in Togo, a detachment of GAF engineers was deployed which successfully rescued victims and repaired bridges in the affected areas, the statement said.
