Cape Coast, Oct 16, GNA - A petroleum tanker with registration number GW 4056 P, on Thursday, crashed a BMW saloon car and a KIA taxi at the Pedu traffic light, Cape Coast, when its driver ignored signals to stop.

The BMW, with registration number GN 3020 Z, had one male occupant and the taxi, with registration number GS 4989 Z, carried four school children.

The school children escaped unhurt while the others sustained minor injuries and were treated and discharged at the Central Regional Hospital.

According to Lance Corporal Ernest Akorli, who was directing traffic when the accident occurred, said the tanker was from Accra towards Takoradi, while the BMW was from Abura to Kotokuraba with the taxi cab from UCC to Abura.

He said he signaled the cars in the lane of the tanker to stop and the two cars ahead of it obliged but the tanker swerved those cars and diverted into the other lane, hitting them in the process and landing on its side.

All the side windows and rear glasses of the BMW were smashed and its sides and back were badly damaged. The taxi cab suffered the same fate.

When the Ghana News Agency visited the scene of the accident, three fire engines, an ambulance and a towing truck had arrived to tow the vehicles.
