Fuel Crisis: Shortage hits Koforidua municipality

Fuel shortage that started in the Koforidua Municipality last Saturday had gone worse as at Tuesday morning when the GNA went round to check the fuel situation in the Municipality.

Only two out of the nine petrol filling stations in the municipality were serving fuel with long queues of vehicles waiting for their turn.

Almost all the fuel filling stations complained that they had run out of kerosene for almost a month now.

Fuel station managers who spoke to GNA complained that the orders they placed for supplies were not forthcoming.
Mr Albert Lumor Sallah, the Manager of Shell Filling Station in Koforidua, said it was rather unfortunate that politicians seemed to be shifting blame and accusing fuel station managers of hoarding. "We have placed orders and the fuel is not coming. If there is no fuel they should say so," he said.
Mr Sallah said to be able to reduce the long queues that have formed since morning, he had decided to sell two gallons to every driver but some unscrupulous drivers turned around and came for more.
He said most drivers want to fill their tanks "and when we object, this same drivers accuse of hoarding and report us to the police".
At Mobil Two Filling Station the Station Supervisor, Mr Kwesi Agyei, said his filling station had been selling petrol and diesel since last Saturday and that the station run out of fuel on Tuesday morning.
