Foreign Minister in Lybia

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, MP left Accra on Sunday 8th December, 2002, for Tripoli, Libya to attend the First Extraordinary Session of the Executive Council of the African Union.

The Session, which is scheduled for 9 - 10 December 2002, will examine proposals submitted by some member States to amend the Constitutive Act of the African Union (AU).

During the First Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the AU held in Durban, South Africa in July 2002, Libya proposed some amendments to the Constitutive Act. It was decided that the Interim Chairman of the Commission, should circulate the proposed amendments to all member states, to be first examined by the Executive Council and submitted for consideration by an Extraordinary Session of the Assembly to be held within six (6) months.

The Assembly is expected to convene in an Extraordinary Session in January 2003, to consider the recommendations of the Executive Council.

Hon. Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, MP was accompanied by officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
